1200.00 a week not bad at all

Postby fowlfarm » Wed Oct 21, 2009 10:11 am

I watched this guy load up his truck

Then waked over and chatted it up for a few

ask him how much he made doing it

he said back a few months ago cardboard was up to 4.00 per 100lbs but now its down to 2.50

he said he was making some weeks 1200.00 dollars

this guy is down in your neck of the woods sel

this might be some good money for part time work or full time

That sounds interesting, and makes me wonder. How much cardboard would it realy take to be 100lb? How worth it would it be for someone like me to collect and recycle such a thing? Also, I wonder how one would go about building a crusher of some sort to provide a much needed eficiant way to collect, and haul?

I should look into this, too. I work in a warehouse, and often throw out more cardboard than I can re-use. For $2.50 per 100, not sure if it's worth my effort :/ Have to figure if the time invested in saving the cardboard, then hauling it to wherever is cost-effective. Like aluminium cans; I took a garbage bag full, and got 3 bucks for it.

Ok, let's do some math. $2.50 per 100# = .025 cents per lb.
an average sized box is about 1 lb. A bigger box can be up to 5 lbs.
To make it worth your while, let's say you make $10 per hour getting cardboard. That's 400#. Probably need a truck or van.
Known fact: cardboard is EVERYWHERE. If you've dumpster-dived for 5 min, you know this.
If you hustle, have a van or truck, a recycling center nearby, and know where to find huge amounts of cardboard (especially furniture or appliance stores, but yeah, pretty much anywhere), I can see making a decent amount of money 8-)

There is a place very near me, but they pay $30 a ton. That's 2,000 pounds of cardboard! It wouldn't hurt to save what I can at work, and make a trip once every couple weeks or so.

Wonder if it's considered stealing to raid the cardboard bins at places. They may get paid a fee to have that collected.

I suppose if you have a trash compactor in your home, you could make mini cardboard/paper bales.

I figured I could save it up at work, then haul it away when I have enough. The easiest way I can think of is break them down, and fold them up inside larger boxes. That way, you can make a bundle up to 50#.
